The 2021 Links to Freedom Cup hosts Jim Lepera

The Links to Freedom Cup Hosts Masters Emmy Winner, Jim Lepera

Links to Freedom is a free program that makes the game of golf a reality for our wounded and disabled Heroes. We are ready to take this program to every SRU in the nation!

(Alexandria, Va.) – The Links to Freedom Cup tournament hosts the 2019 Emmy Award winning Masters Tournament producer Jim Lepera of CBS, and his wife, LPGA Legend, Janet Lepera. This year’s L2F Cup will take place on October 3 and 4, 2021 at the beautiful Springfield Golf and Country Club in Northern Virginia.

“We are excited to bring the Lepera’s to our event. Jim loves to share his fabulous experience producing the Masters and Janet is a world-class teaching LPGA professional who endeavors to bring more ladies to the links,” said Links to Freedom Chairman Rob Koon, a retired Airman. “This two-day golf event with the Springfield Golf Country Club team will secure enough capital to fund an additional 150 new disabled veterans in 2022. With over 4,000 alum, we continue to create rehabilitative golf opportunities across the country and tackle the onslaught of personal struggles associated with veteran suicide.”

The Links to Freedom Cup will begin with a pairing party on Sunday, October 3rd at 4 p.m. featuring keynote speaker, Jim Lepera. Jim has produced the Masters for almost two decades and remains a mainstay with the CBS golf television production team. Contact L2F for paring party information. The L2F golf tournament will host a 9 a.m. breakfast the next day followed by a 10:30 a.m. tee time. Registration and sponsor packages are available at www.l2fcup2021.perfectgolfevent.com. Early bird registration through the end of August saves $100 using promotion code CUP21.

“Wounded, ill, and injured service members and their families count on this program,“ said Steve Greiner, the L2F Executive Director and PGA Professional. “Running nine programs at no cost to our troops is a big order. I am proud that Links to Freedom is the leading nationally recognized program using golf as a therapeutic tool to heal wounded, ill and injured Veterans and their families. This event creates more opportunities to teach and heal our nation’s Heroes using the game of golf.”

Greiner developed L2F as the Fort Belvoir head golf professional to bring normalcy and recreation to those service members who otherwise would spend their time in psychological and physical therapy. He grew the program nationally; in 2019, Links to Freedom signed an agreement with the Dept. of the Army to bring this adaptive golf curriculum to every Service Member Recovery Unit (SRU) in the country.

“Golf is my passion and has given me a wonderful life. Working at Fort Belvoir helped me develop an equal passion for our service members. Too many deployed and came back different. I needed to help as many of them as I could,” said Greiner. “Links to Freedom is a free program that makes the game of golf a reality for our wounded and disabled Heroes. We are ready to take this program to every SRU in the nation!”

Warriors and their families may join the L2F program online at www.linkstofreedom.org. L2F appreciates all sponsors including Teel Construction, Dittmar Company, Fairlife, Crestwood Technology Group (CTG), Unilever, and Divots Sportswear.

Springfield Golf Country Club is located 8301 Old Keene Mill Road, Springfield, Va., 22151.

“This program was so important to me as I transitioned,” said Jose Gonzalez, retired Marine, L2F graduate and board member. “Support this wonderful tournament. Our nation’s Heroes deserve it.”
