Honoring Our Founder and Looking Ahead
For nearly two decades, Links to Freedom has been a place of healing, connection, and purpose for our nation’s wounded, ill, and injured service members and their families. At the heart of this mission is our founder, Steve Greiner, PGA Professional.
In 2008, at Fort Belvoir, Steve recognized a need—to address not only the physical injuries of war, but also the invisible wounds carried by so many returning service members. Through his vision, compassion, and leadership, the Wounded Warrior Golf Program was born, eventually growing into the Links to Freedom Golf Foundation in 2015. His impact on this community, and on the thousands of lives touched through this program, is both profound and lasting.
After years of dedicated leadership, Steve has stepped down from his role as Executive Director as of March 1. We are deeply grateful for his unwavering commitment, his heart for service, and the strong foundation he has built.
We are grateful that Steve will continue to play an essential role as Founder and Director of Instruction. In this capacity, he will remain closely connected to the program he created—leading curriculum development, mentoring our golf professionals, and guiding the instructional experience at the core of our mission.
As part of this transition, Kelli VanDenBerg assumed the role of Executive Director on January 1, working alongside Steve to ensure continuity in leadership. Kelli has been instrumental in advancing the organization’s marketing, partnerships, and growth initiatives, and will continue to build upon the strong foundation established over the past 17 years.
This transition reflects a natural evolution of leadership while remaining firmly grounded in our mission. Links to Freedom remains committed to providing adaptive and rehabilitative golf programs that support healing—physically, emotionally, and socially—for those who have sacrificed so much in service to our country.
We are sincerely grateful for the continued support of our partners, donors, instructors, volunteers, and participants. Because of you, this mission continues to grow and reach those who need it most.
